...so go and visit it!

Due to the growing interest in Southends in the early part of the 21st century it was decided that a governing body should manage all Southend related affairs. On the 14th April 2006 a board was created which many of the early pioneers of Southend Roadtripping sat on. It became know as: The Association for Southend Decisions and Activities Board, or The ASDA Board for short.

The ASDA Board is a public-run non-profit organisation that has been set up to give information, make decisions and provide activities to do in Southends across England and, indeed, the World. It is principally there to answer any queries that may arise on any settlement named Southend, and ensure that everyone enjoys their trips to Southend. We hope that you will be well served by the ASDA Board, and will continue to use our services when necessary!

Remember that when it comes to Southends:

we do the equipping, so you can do the tripping!

The Board:

The board currently has 5 members, but is always striving to find more volunteers who wish to share their enthusiasm and expertise in Southend roadtripping. The current board comprises of:

"Random Rob" – Chief Executive
"Colonel Splaffy" – Director of Southend Technical Research and Internet Presence Section
"Doublechaireverytime" – Director of Southend Tourism (Southend Tourist Adviser)
"Sorceror Sock" - Director of Creative Projects
"Chinquary" - Protection of Idyllic English Signage Executive

If you have any comments or want to apply for a position, please email a member of the ASDA Board by clicking on their name above.

The ASDA Board Southend Classification System:

The following set of criteria has been confirmed by  the ASDA board (Association for Southend Decisions and Activities) as the official method of obtaining a Southend Classification ranking:

1.1 Southend (settlement)
1.2 South End (settlement)
2.1 Southend (settlement with additional word(s) in name OR part of another settlement [clearly signed] OR a road)
2.2 South End (settlement with additional word(s) in name OR part of another settlement [clearly signed] OR a road)
3.1 Southend (road with additional word(s) in name)
3.2 South End (road with additional word(s) in name)
4.1 Southend (no sign, but official physical evidence on or near location [e.g. sign pointing towards it])
4.2 South End (no sign, but official physical evidence on or near location [e.g. sign pointing towards it])
5.1 Southend (no official evidence but investigations by the ASDA Board have found evidence of the Southend [e.g. house names])
5.2 South End (no official evidence but investigations by the ASDA Board have found evidence of the Southend [e.g. house names])

Thus, for example:

The settlement 'Southend' in Bucks is classed as a 1.1
where as the road 'South End Green' in Hampstead,  London is classed as a 3.2

Please Note:
A more detailed, percentage based classification of all the Southend settlements and roads called the MRKIPLING Percentage has been confirmed by the ASDA Board and comes into immediate effect. This does not supercede the ASDA Board Classification but it is designed to work in unison. If you can help by scoring a Southend near you then please let us know.
