Brief Outline: Glancing at a map South End Lane might not look all that far off the beaten track with the A19 passing nearby. But don't let that fool you, this South End isn't for the faint hearted. Long and winding lanes are what await you. The lanes are narrow and not bordered by hedges, but by ditches either side. The large size of these ditches has prompted the saying in the local area; "If the ditch you descend, you'll never make it to South End". There are also many other similar narrow roads which are just dead ends. In the dark these could fool even the most experienced roadtripper. You question whether the locals make the journey hard on purpose to keep their South End 'exclusive'. However it only makes it all the more worthwhile when you finally make it to South End Lane. What is nice about this South End is that it literally is the southern most end of the local community. There is nothing much but fields extending southwards from here. Down South End Lane is a collection of farms, one appropriately called South End Farm. It is thought that this community refers to themselves as the settlement of South End. Without a sign though its 'just' a 3.2 but don't let that put you off. Any genuine Southend is covered by the ASDA Board guarantee to provide complete satisfaction or your money back. |
