...so go and visit it!

Southend Bradfield
Berkshire
ASDA Board Class - 2.1
MRKIPLING Percentage - 83

Brief Outline:

Situated to the west of Reading, the small settlement of Southend (Berks) has seen so much rapid growth in the last few decades that it has, unfortunately, ceased to be a settlement in its own right. But while the merger with Bradfield cost Southend its individuality, it has lead to a successful partnership over the years, with the two communities working together to ensure the village hall and primary school are accessed by all areas of the Southend and Bradfield community. While perhaps not being the most thrilling Southend to visit (mainly due to its linear settlement design and the fact that no one appears to know where Bradfield ends and Southend starts!), it is well worth a visit. One of the select Southends to have a shop, it sells all sorts of things from it's very own Southend Bradfield pens to pies! It also plays host to a modern and exciting play park, recommended for all ages! Southend Bradfield is particularly worth a visit in the Christmas holidays (see photos below).

Personal Review:

Anna:
I have visited Southend (Berks) only twice in my life, and I feel that this is not enough. The first time I went I stood in amazement at the lights. On my second visit the lights were even more amazing (if possible). I'm sure, therefore, that for my Christmas visit for 2007, the lights will be spectacular. But it really is a place to visit all year around! The play park had many things to do, and after using all that energy, the shop was the perfect place to go and stock up on supplies!
