Southend
Nr Chaddleworth, Berkshire
ASDA Board Class - 5.1
MRKIPLING Percentage - 33

Brief Outline:

Amongst the country lanes of rural Berkshire lies a small cluster of houses which form the quaint hamlet of Southend. A hedgerow-lined main street leads to a number of large, well maintained households and a number of guard dogs ensure public order is kept at all times.
The main issue holding back this settlement at the current time is that there is no sign either at the site, or indeed even leading to the site of the settlement. While verbal confirmation was given by one of the local residents that the hamlet is indeed called Southend, the lack of a qualifying sign is of significance. Being unwilling or unable to showcase the fact that you are indeed a settlement called 'Southend' results in a severe deduction of points. It unfortunately demotes them down the ASDA board ranking system (announced as a 5.1 after much debate), however the full implication is going to have to wait until the lawyers have had their say.

Things To Do:

Blackberry picking is always a bonus - 1 of your five a day (or is it worth 2 because it's a Southend?)
It's always worth spending a few minutes writing to West Berkshire Council to challenge them over the lack of a sign.
