Brief Outline: After walking out of East Ham station, many people might try out one of the specialist ethnic restaurants or pay a visit to the extensive party shop on the high street. While they could perhaps be forgiven, those people would be missing out on the glorious road that is Southend Road - one of the best kept secrets of the East End. For much of its journey, the road runs parallel to the District Line which services nearby East Ham Underground Station. Obviously, even back in 1908, the transport planners had the foresight to provide such a fantastic transport connection to this wonderful road that was sure to become a hit with the tourists exactly a century later in 2008. Our researcher felt it necessary to celebrate this noteable anniversary by travelling 30 stops of the district line to visit this up-and-coming tourist destination. |
