South End Lane |
Northall, Buckinghamshire |

Brief Outline: The outskirts of Buckinghamshire contain a long lane which is easy to miss by the speeding motorist, but which has a great sign and a number of nice houses. It is situated between the small settlements of Northall and Edlesborough, just off the A4146. Of course, it needs an 'A' road nearby to handle all the traffic that results in being a South End road, and locals have surely come to expect visitors coming into their roads, fields and driveways. One current limitation of the road is the difficulty in turning round, as well as the limited overtaking/passing points, but I guess that limits the damage done from boy racers speeding along the nearby 'A' road. One must however be wary of people getting 'overly jolly' about living so near to South End Lane, as this can lead to locals having an alcoholic bev to many, and result in drunk people lying in the road... So, enjoy South End Lane at a reasonable, and not speed breaking, pace and why not include it in a 'Race to a South End Hill' challenge! The 'Race to South End Hill' challenge involved 2 teams - Team Lane End verses Team Hambleden Valley - as they battled through the Buckinghamshire countryside to get to the infamous South End Hill. On the way, they had to complete tasks to collect bonus points, collecting photographic evidence of stopping at a church, postbox, pub, sign with 'South' in it etc etc. Despite Team Hambleden using sat nav they were still second to the Hill and had less photos leaving Team Lane End victorious. |
